Hommage to legendary Japanese art director and original
キモ可愛い queen, Nagi Noda. Exhibition Key Visual design done as a project for Hongik University’s Graduate School of Design. Overseeing professor: Minjae Huh (Studio DD

Nagi Noda (1973 -2008), was a Japanese artist, art director, and designer known for her eclectic and imaginative creations. Working across a variety of mediums, from fashion to music videos to advertising campaigns, Noda gained acclaim for her playful and whimsical approach to design, often incorporating elements of fantasy, humor, and surrealism into her work.

For this project, I distilled Noda’s style into three main themes —animal, shadow, and repeat — and used them to design a key visual for an imaginary exhibition based on the concept of 'split.' I wanted the final design to look like something Noda would create herself, keeping the focus on the artist’s work, while showcasing it an a new way. Following her creation process as much as possible, the main logo text is drawn by hand mixing bold shapes with freeflowing details.

The exhibition title ‘Nan-Nan’ (colloquial Japanese for ‘What’s that?’) is a palindrome, with the N’s reflected so they read as both uppercase and lowercase versions of the letter.
