3月のミューズ Muses of March
BFA Thesis project.
Although for most of the year, I am loyal to my all-black wardrobe, like clockwork every March as the weather gets warmers, I feel compelled to dye my hair pink and wear exclusively light, pastel colors — albeit for one month only. For my final project at Tama Art University, I chose to create a textile and illustration collection that contains this intangible feverish inspiration that comes with spring.
The fantastical, almost psychedelic, pastel hues and floral-inspired patterns — made from a mixture of materials including crayon, paint, glitter, makeup, and dyes — to this day are the best reflection of my personal style and aesthetic tastes. My inspiration can be traced back to memories of my first spring in Japan (March 2008), Japanese Shojo Manga, and a mix of 1960s and 1920s fashion and art influences.
The iridescent pink splatter flowers first created here have since become a defining element of my personal artwork, and I often incorporate the texture in place of a signature.
